Vintage Meets Modern Design: Styling a Vintage Coffee Table

We all do it, right? You find something you just have to have at a garage/estate/moving sale and you pick it up even though you have no idea how it’s going to work in your home. Okay, maybe that’s just me, because I have a serious shopping addiction. But, I know that I’ve had friends just fall in love with a piece of furniture and pass it up because they didn’t know how it would work with all their modern IKEA decor. Well, fear not, friends! Today I wanted to talk a little bit about styling vintage coffee tables with your modern day decor, because it is do-able and it can be fan-tastic!

*Coffee tables are one of most common items I hear people saying they don’t know how to style, but if you have a request for something, please leave it in the comments! I’ll try to get to it in my next post.

Interior Design: French Quarter Haven

I took my first trip ever to New Orleans this past January and those of you that have been before understand – wow. That’s the only word I can use to describe the vibrant and lively French Quarter. Not only is the neighborhood unlike anywhere else in the world for nightlife, but the immense amount of history is breathtaking. The blocks and homes look like they’ve been frozen in time and have this wonderful Spanish feel. And don’t even get me started on the colors! From pastel pink to mint green, you could find a condo in your favorite shade, no problem.

Obviously, as my friend and I walked through the neighborhoods (drink in hand, because you can do that there), we wondered how people lived there and what their homes were like. So when I stumbled across this home tour, I was so excited to find that the homes (at least this one) are exactly how I imagined them to be – intensely colorful and full of life, just like the city itself.

Design Inspiration: Vintage Accent Chairs

I share a lot of interior design posts on here because I love looking at design, BUT I was, unfortunately, not gifted with an eye for it. So, designing my own space has been kind of an uphill battle. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. I just try to tackle it one room at a time so that I don’t overwhelm myself. The apartment has come a long way, but I think there’s still work to be done.

One part of it that I’m constantly struggling with are these two vintage accent chairs that were gifted to me by my well-meaning, wonderful mother. I mean, have you talked to your mother recently and tried to tell her that something wasn’t your style? I couldn’t turn the chairs down, nor can I get rid of them.

What I Wore: The Resort Wear Edition

I have never understood the whole resort wear thing in the winter time. Are there seriously that many people going on tropical vacations in the winter that we need a whole other fashion season for it? I’m not. Most working class people I know are not, so rich people must need a lot of palm print dresses. I don’t get it. It’s like a terrible tease when your sitting in your office on a 20 degree day. However, I do love that resort wear style for summer! Where it’s appropriate and makes sense. Like at a lighthouse oasis by the beach.

What I Wore: The Modern Vintage Edition

You’re all a smart bunch of people, I’m sure it hasn’t escaped you by now that I love vintage and retro style and even sell my own finds on Etsy. Well, when the Internet first starting being a huge shopping hub (wow, that sentence makes me feel ancient even though this was probably only 10 years ago or so), it opened up a whole new world of vintage possibilities! I spent so much time searching online for the perfect 40s style dresses and rockabilly handbags. It was a sickness. Still is, I guess. However, back in those days, your options for true vintage and vintage reproduction were limited and pricey. I would drool over styles from Stop Staring! hoping that I could one day afford something from their collection. And I still do.
Of course, now the Internet has made it easier than ever to find vintage reproduction styles for any price range. It’s really nuts how easy it is and I find a new favorite site every day. The dress below is from a store in the UK called Voodoo Vixen that I just discovered a few months ago!
