What I Wore: The Modern Vintage Edition

You’re all a smart bunch of people, I’m sure it hasn’t escaped you by now that I love vintage and retro style and even sell my own finds on Etsy. Well, when the Internet first starting being a huge shopping hub (wow, that sentence makes me feel ancient even though this was probably only 10 years ago or so), it opened up a whole new world of vintage possibilities! I spent so much time searching online for the perfect 40s style dresses and rockabilly handbags. It was a sickness. Still is, I guess. However, back in those days, your options for true vintage and vintage reproduction were limited and pricey. I would drool over styles from Stop Staring! hoping that I could one day afford something from their collection. And I still do.
Of course, now the Internet has made it easier than ever to find vintage reproduction styles for any price range. It’s really nuts how easy it is and I find a new favorite site every day. The dress below is from a store in the UK called Voodoo Vixen that I just discovered a few months ago!

What I Wore: Sheer Vintage Dresses Edition

Oh some days it feels like spring will never come. We’ll get one nice day accompanied by three chilly ones. I’m starting to give up hope here. But, it just means that I try to take advantage of the nice days when we have them, like this past weekend. It was the perfect day to test drive this little vintage number. This lilac vintage dress is one of my favorite finds, but it’s super sheer so it really only works on warm days. But when it does work, oh it works.

10 Funny Valentine’s Day Cards for the Romantically Challenged

I don’t really make it a secret that I hate Valentine’s Day. Yes, hate. I’m not single or bitter or whatever else you assume about people who say they hate Valentine’s Day but only really hate it when they don’t have someone to celebrate with. I just greatly dislike the super forced fake sentiment that comes with it. If you love me, great! Tell me all the time and take me out on date on the regular. Don’t save some grand romantic gesture or a day in February when you’re jammed in a restaurant with 40 other couples. Oh geez. I’m going to break out in hives just thinking about it.

That being said, I like cards. I think they’re funny and they’re a nice gesture any time of the year to say, “Hey you, I was thinking about you. Here’s a piece of paper I found to prove it.” Cute, right? I’m sure I’m not the only romantically challenged girl on the Internet, so in a show of solidarity here are a few card options you can still pick up if your way of saying “I love you” involves Netflix and pizza.

First off, for the cat lovers:

What I Wore: The Lady in Red Edition

Let me tell you, there is nothing better for the confidence than a little rouge. I am dead serious about this. Feeling blah and don’t want to put any effort into your outfit today? Throw on jeans, a sweater, and some red lipstick and you’ll see. It really is that easy. I know the color on this 40s style vintage dress is one of the reasons it’s totally an instant confidence booster!

Not only is this 40s inspired vintage dress the most gorgeous red I’ve ever seen, but it’s also a very silky polyester so it just feels rich and luxurious. It’s 3/4 sleeve and has one snap that holds the front together. If you wanted to, you could wear a pretty little tank top underneath and let the top stay parted. I wish I had gotten a shot of it open, but I was not wearing a tank top and I don’t think we know each other like that just yet 😉

Oh, did I mention you can pick up this dress in the Etsy shop?

 Outfit Details:
Vintage Red Dress – Stranger Than Vintage Etsy Shop
Fur Vest – Urban Outfitters last year (similar vest)
Belt – I couldn’t tell you if my life depended on it (similar belt
Grey tights
Grey shoes

This vintage dress is totally perfect for the holidays too. You’ll be a bombshell at any holiday party wearing anything silky and red. Seriously, I don’t know what it is about the red, but as soon as I put it on it’s like a whole new me. I mean forever ago, red was the mark of all things sexual, so I guess it kind of makes sense right.

And a big thank you to my photographer who was dying for cigarettes but took these pictures first.

What I Wore: The Date Night Edition

Ah, date night. Doesn’t matter if it’s a night out with someone new, someone old, or just the girls, it’s an excuse to get dressed up and who doesn’t like that? Now, as much as I love layering for fall, I always have a much harder time picking out clothes to wear out as the weather cools down. I don’t know about you, but for me, you throw a jacket into the mix and I no longer have any clue what I’m doing. This makes going out at night mostly one big panic attack. SO, when I do find an outfit that works and I like, I wear the crap out of it. You too?

This is one of those outfits. I bet I’m going to wear it until something rips. I tried to play it up with some fall staples like the pleather skirt, short sleeve sweater, and thigh highs. I like adding thigh highs to fall outfits because they make the whole thing more playful than tights.

Outfit details:
Short sleeve sweater top – Local Boutique
Scalloped pleather skater skirt – Local Boutique (similar skirt)
Thigh highs – Target
Black boots – Urban Outfitters

*Please excuse the blurry photos. I’m breaking in a new camera stand ::ahem:: I mean, photographer.

This is a terrible outfit post because I bought everything locally, but I wanted to show off the details on this skirt that I’m in love with. Next outfit post I’ll have something better for you guys, I swear!

What’s your go to night out outfit?
